A Night of Prayer Someone once said that “prayer is the power of God in the hands of men.” The scriptures are clear on the importance, necessity and power of prayer. Often accompanied with this unified effort in prayer came a discipline called fasting. Fasting simply means to go without or to give up something in order to concentrate on or give full attention to a situation at hand. We see that Jesus fasted and prayed before starting his ministry, the apostles fasted and prayed before selecting elders for the churches, and prophets and leaders in the Old Testament did the same thing. So, as a church, we are calling the body of believers here to join us in two ways: 1. On Wednesday, March 27 we want people to commit to fast and pray. We want you to decide what you could fast from throughout the day on March 27. Maybe you will fast and go without food for the day or maybe fast for lunch or dinner. But you could also fast or give up other things for the day: TV, Facebook, smart phone, soda, chocolate, etc. The intention behind the fast is to take that time that you would normally be indulging in those other things and commit that time to prayer. 2. On Wednesday, March 27 we want to invite you to come to the church to participate in a Night of Prayer. We will have all of our adult groups that night meet in the sanctuary and devote our time to prayer and reading of scripture. We will focus our prayer time on the community that is walking without Jesus and ask the Holy Spirit to soften people’s hearts as we lead up to Easter Sunday. Here are some of the things we will be praying about: 1. Pray for our community. Pray that God would use the influence and service of His church within the community to help people realize that they need Christ. 2. Pray for the Easter Service that will be held on Sunday, March 31. Pray that everything that happens from our LakeKids ministry through our adults that day will be blessed by God. 3. Pray for those people who will be invited to join us for our Easter Celebration. As a church, we are praying for and inviting people to join us for Easter. Pray that God would work in the hearts of those individuals and prepare them to respond appropriately to the invitation. 4. Pray that through the ministry of Lake Eustis Christian God’s name would be magnified and we would see lives transformed through the power of Jesus Christ. “The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” (James 5:16)
